Hi Marion, that's what makes this shot. It leaves alot to the viewers imagination, and it has a large amout of tension in it. (repeating myself here)
In all fairness, I like your vision better, and also more plausible. The bandana is very retro touch. A peace activist who failed to grow up and follow the changing times he himself fought for...
This is what I 'read': His wife told him to take little Tommy into town (so she can go out by herself?), but he hates Carnaval, thinks it's bourgeois (note the traditional bandana not around his neck, but his head). And Tommy? He'ld rather go play with his Duplo....
I made a mistake with the equipment (I'll change it): it wasn't shot with the Canon at all (wasn't even on the market yet) but with the Sony F707 I had back then. But the 105 mm macro IS a great lens! :)
OW! Very strong image.... The people walking around seem to keep clear of this guy. Not only do the passengers-by frame the image perfectly, they also emphasise the atmosphere. Alone in a public place, deprived, and no way out of misery. I'm just guessing here, but that's what my imagination makes me see in this shot. And that's also what I like about it. It has a tremendous tension in it....
Shot with the 105mm macro?!? I love that lens! With Nikon, it's quite noisy, though. I have to keep it on manual, or use earplugs....)
