A very tough photo, with some punishing realities beyond the image. You speak truth. It is sad that USA locks up more people than any other country in the world.
Surely there must be a better way.

I've read that we have more prisoners per capita than did the Soviet Union under Stalin. Clearly, incarcerating people doesn't solve any problems. It's a shame the subject matter is so ugly because the silvery color against the red bricks is so beautiful.

Short narrative but so true. All the blame can't be laid on the parents. Nor, can the penal system be blamed. We did not have these problems until the anything, everything goes mentality set in and people stopped being held accountable. Our society is in a downward spiral just like this razor wire in this excellent photo.

Excellent. I have tried on two separate occasions to film the barbed wire around a local power plant. I could never make it work. Great job with great detail. Del.

Very thought provoking shot...and your "about" is so true. I am one that believes this starts at HOME... with parents that actively parent and are aware of what their children are doing and who treat their children with respect as well and whom are not so busy seeking "stuff" and spend the time parenting. I think as I have watched my childrens friends thru their life and known about their friends enviornments I was very accurate as to the ones that were most likely to end up in jail. They were angry at a young age and left to their own way too long and way too often. I also feel when put into a home with rules they thrived as children need guidelines..which is often times not given consistantly.

Well said, and photographed. Sad comment on our world isn't it? Christine's comment says it all.

Artistic imitation or invention that is a method of revealing or suggesting immaterial, ideal, or otherwise intangible truth or states. One of the definitions of symbolism. You could not have defined it anymore succinctly Rebecca. Excellent capture and this image belongs on the cover of a book on why the system does not work. (ps: your comment re the rock with the hole I posted for you had me LMAO as I did when I found it. There was a whole bunch of them lining the side of the road but only one had the hole, what a weird coincidence)
