Dear Thilo, I like such captured instant where nothing is posed and which only relfects the spontaneity of people, and life. You have perfectly suceeded in this way with the capture of the expression of the musician eyes looked towards the child and his smile. The result is a certain purity and emotion in the image. Congrats. 7+++. Fabrice

Hey Uwe,

Dear Hugo,
thanks for the lengthy comment here. very inspirational, as always.
It's actually very easy why I opt for the color rework in this case. you won't like the original one ;-) I do a lot of lens testing with the D70. especially with analogue ones as I also have analogue nikons. the colored version shows a lot of strange color behaviour (strange toning etc.) and I don't have the monitor to do a good facial color rework. So I opt for the easy way and toned it to b/w and then back to RGB with a slight rework.
You're totally right in advising NOT to overdo with color reworks. I know that this is kind of a business card for me - but I don't want to limit myself to color reworks. You may rest assured that I will post a LOT of color pictures when my standard lens for the D70 (Sigma 24-135mm. F/2.8-4.5) will finally arrive.
So stay tuned. have already some pictures in the pipeline ;-)
thanks again! Cheers, Thilo

Great capture of the expression on the man's face and for me an excellent composition.
The question is: who was entertaining who?
The answer: they were both helping you entertain us! :)

Cool! I do like the reference to Queen, and that's what Freddy Mercury had in mind when he wrote this song.... Doubt if he'd buy this kind of show, though....)
First, the shot. The sepia works well, and I think the single sided interaction between harmonica player and the kid is the element that makes this shot. Well composed. ]
To explain what I mean with the second thing I'd like to mention requires a bit more text as it as to do with the recent photos in your portfolio. They all have a rather elaborate sepia tone. All quite fitting, but I do now and then wonder why. Converting digital images to B&W or sepia is completely valid, and does enable it to create a certain effect, but I think those conversions need to be handled with care. The point being: B&W and sepia / monochrome conversions is not a purpose, but only a mean. In this case, I think the original colour version would've brought you the same atmosphere, so why not leave it in colour? In most of your photos, the sepia tone does serve a purpose, and in all of them, it does create a very good and strong atmosphere. I don't think you'd need the sepia /monochrome conversion in some of them to get the same sort of image. (basically, that's what I mean with Sepia is a tool, not a mean.) Don't get me wrong, I think it works very well in most of the shots (especially the NYC street shots, it's absolutely a vital element there) but don't over do it....
Cheers,
Hugo
