I like the the effect of the guassian blur overlay but agree with Ken that its a bit over the top. I'm thinking a 50% opacity would have kept it more real - less ghost like.

I like the basic image... but to me the softness is overdone... just a bit sharper would have been better for defination of the faces which I would want a bit sharper ffor me that is... composition is great exposure seems right on...

This effect was created by making a duplicate image (layer) and using the Transform Scale function to make it larger than the original. I then applied a Gausian Blur filter with a radius of approx. 35 pixels and reduced the layer transparency to approx. 80 percent. Essentially what you are looking at is an image with a larger, fuzzy and transparent duplicate on top.

Love the effect. What tools did you use, please?

Hmmm...Isn't Photo Shop just too cool...Gotta realize,,,These software programs are very expensive and being used more and more everyday. They are as expensive as a pretty good camera, therefore should be used. Having a personl pic to beging with, did it this morning to a portrait shot I took of my boys and it smoothed their skin out to a beautiful softenss, much like I'm sure has been done in every Senior Portrait ever made...So that said,,,I love it. Very well done. The knowledge shared by the guys on how to do it with a camera, also, very interesting.
