About Subject Background: You see three silhouetted pedestriands walking at the end of a construction site tunnel. Is there any hope over there?

Photoshop concept: Conversion to BW, working on contrasts and sharpness (get the blown-out background in acceptable shape), mild crop to get the center off-centered ;-)

As always: Honest feedback highly appreciated.

I really like this image (ok i know i said that about most of your pics hehehe)
its in my favorites now :)
Its not so easy to look at images around us in black and white ( im learning it the hard way :P) but u managed perfectly here! The B&W is defiantly much better than the colored pic
Great work on PS

Hi Uwe,

vg, uwe

Hi Stefan,

I'm a PS addict but that's too much manipulation, even for me ;-)

It would be easy to cheat and add some texture definition to the blown out wall in the background :-)

Hi Stefan,

thanks for the constructive feedback. I see your point and I would love the make this shot again with a different lighting meter system. Obviously the background is blown out, and you're right in stating that the contrast between the persons and the end of the tunnel is a bit hard.
will take care of that in future photo sessions ;-)
thanks again!

Hi Efisio,

I see your point with the metallic look. maybe it's because of the sharpening. will take care of that, thanks for the hint!

I like the image but I feel that the contrast is a little inconsistent across the image. It is very high across of course, but it is quite extreme with the black silhouettes against the pure white background. On the otherhand, there is still a decent range of grays left on the floor. My personal taste would be to bring the "end of the tunnel" down to the contrast of the foreground.

Great Idea Thilo i like bw version.
Maybe the wood texture seems too metallic.
But belive find something wrong in this shot it's very difficult.

like a lith, very impressive image.
a bw image's right one, the alternative in color was less impressive

Hi Brad,

get your point with the off-centering... I was probably not consequent enough here. not sure why I definitely wanted an off-centered image anyway... will take that into consideration next time.
thanks for the critics!

Hi Steve,

actually, these tunnels really look like containers, good comparison ;-)
glad you like BW as this my favourite, too.
thanks for the feedback!

Thilo, I really like the strong contrast here. The lines are very sharp and effective. If I could change one thing, I would either place the "light at the end of the tunnel" further to one side, or completely center it. I think that's just a personal preference, as the shot does completely stand on its' own.....I'm a contrast junkie, and this is really good!

wonderful image -- the BW version is far superior to the color -- great job in pulling the eyes into your image. Kev

Incredible composition Thilo - I definitely prefer the B&W to the chosen coloured one.
It is a good match with the title also :-)
I thought at first the photo was taken on the inside of one of those huge marine shipping containers !

Best wishes,
Steve
