Hi Sue,
Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you! My "home-studio" lighting is a desk lamp (60 watt.. hahahha) and then I use a white piece of foam core as a reflector on the other side. I like the warmth of the lamp...
More from the rainy-day series will be making a comeback soon.
Cheers!

This is wonderful, Kim.

You comment about the home-studio setup is coming back out; what do you use for lighting?

The vase appearing out of the darkness is what I like best about this photo. There is something about the color in the flower that seems unreal to me. I thought first that the red channel was blown in places, but there is not much of that. Very elegant composition.

Hi Dirck,
Thanks for your comment ... appreciated as always!
I was trying to play with the opaqueness of the vase by letting the light fall off at the bottom to give it a translucent feel, like the vase and flower are growing up from the darkness.
Perhaps I either need to extend the darkness to make the point more clear, or just crop a bit higher and not show that.
Thanks again for taking a look!

Thanks Jim for noticing the background. This was actually shot with an olive green sheet as a backdrop, but with the light falling on the flower and vase the bg was rendered almost black. I just need to tweak a little bit more.

Beautiful saturation. All around beautiful shot in fact. If I had to point out anything to improve this it would be to make the background completely black or to hide further what is in the background. I can see a line along the left edge of the image and something barely coming through in the bottom right corner. Very much a nit pick but one that would help you make this stand out all the more.

Talk about popping out of the screen! I like gerberas because they are just so assertive and proud! I like the way the blossom itself is so sharp and colorful, but the vase has taken on a much more ethereal quality - the DOF with the macro filter must be next to nothing! I do wish I could see the bottom of the vase, though.
