About We spotted this old barn from Interstate 80 west of Des Moines, IA and had to go shoot it. There is nothing inside and it doesn't look like it will last much longer.

I especially like this photograph; of time standing still, and a small part of past history.

It's a great composition; the clouds stand out well; I feel like I can almost walk right into the picture, and nose around.

nice capture... there is a bit of sadness when looking at these old barns.. a way of life slowly fading away... good work

I thought the same thing about the bridges, Kay. They were so new looking that they lost their 'history' to me. I took a lot of bridge shots and used very few. I couldn't believe how many dilapidated barns were in the area, though. They are fairly hard to find close to home, but were all over the place up there. I'm planning another run up there in the spring to find some new ones!

I agree that the old barns and farm houses are more interesting than the bridges. I was disappointed to see that the bridges looked so fresh and "new". Guess I expected something else. My husband has relatives buried in Winterset, so we were doing some graveyard genealogy there.
Thanks for adding me to your friends list!

Thanks for your kind comments, Kay. This was taken with a regular telephoto lens. The lean you see is the barn inching closer to it's final resting place.

I found the barns in the area much more interesting than the bridges.

One of my favorite subjects- old barns. They will all be gone one day soon. We travel this area often as my husband is from NW Iowa and his brother lives in Grinnell. Are you using a fish eye lens or is it really leaning like that?

I see we have an eye for the same type of photos (old buildings). I have to say your portfolio has a lot more color in it than mine. Very nice work that D70 does a good job in the right hands, I'll have to look at that camera again.

I agree that it probably won't last much longer. The angle of its lean is quite unstable. The natural surroundings and brilliant sky is a warning to the old, that the new is coming through. Excellent capture.

Thanks, Chris. If you look real close at the lower right corner of the barn, it says "Copyright 2004 Don Loseke". It was painted right on the barn. I couldn't believe it!!

Actually, Don is a family friend and has been a teacher and inspiration in my newfound hobby.

Beautiful shot, Mark.
Reminiscent of some of Don Loseke and Jim Christensen's D70 pic's.
Good work.
Kind regards, Chris
