About
The skipjacks are Marylands oyster boats. They were designed to dredge the oyster beds of the Chesapeake Bay. They did thier job so well, that they almost put them selves out of business. The oyster populations in the bay, due to overharvesting and disease, have fallen to the point of nearly being wipped out.
Del, there is but a small handfull of skipjacks that still work the bay but, thier numbers are few and far between. Thanks for your comments. Jim Gamble
I love those boats. Boy are you right about the oysters. Thirty yrs ago I could hardly fish the lower Potomac for the oyster boats. This year I never saw a single one. Do any of the old skipjacks still work? Del.
