Hi João - all the factors that contribute to a narrow DOF are conspiring and pulling in the same direction here - see my reply to Dirck. Thank you for your visits!

Hi Stefan,

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that you made the unfocus area on purpose, did you?
OK, I don't know enough about this, but is it really possible to focus just a narrow "line" as you did here?

The photo is superb, that's my honest opinion; but it's hard to understand.

Well deserved BIP!

Cheers

Grattis Stefan. Det är verkligen ett mycket kort skärpedjup i den här bilden. Ett bra val! I övrigt en mjuk och väl komponerad bild.

I will have to take your word that there is a trio, since I can only visually verify a duo. A prime and very successful example of selective focus.

i love shallow DOF and this pic is an example of creative use of it... great perspective creating a special dynamique towards the background where clouds of color danse.... congrats on the BIP too... well deserved impo... emy

Hi Stefan, Now this is an image that appeals to me. Alot. The DOF as well as the camera position, creating a very strong perspective are excellent. Very well handled and a simple but great shot. The extremely shallow DOF creats a very good tension, using the peripheral subjects only to fill the composition, without referencing at their context. Very good shot~!

Cheers,

Hugo

I think the plane of focus line is really cool. Looks like the stone is moving through a 'force field'. There also seem to be some curious patterns in the unfocussed to left. Interesting effect.
Overall, there is something dreamy and soothing about this shot.

for me the extremely small DOF works fantastic here...

Thanks Dirck - this may be the narrowest DOF I've seen outside of a macro shot and that odd quality endeared this photo to me. What I found interesting is that you can literally see the plane of focus as a thin line on the deck. It makes sense - a short telephoto lens, wide open, near its minimal focusing distance. That said, a little deeper DOF would not hurt here :-)

I love the concept and the composition here, but maybe just a little too shallow a DOF? Maybe increase just to the point where the first stone is all in focus (at first I thought the first and second were one stone.) How about having the second stone be the one in focus? Just throwing out ideas... :)

Hi Stefan,

interesting composing here, like the contrast with the colorful background. the diagonal underground forms a nice contrast to the rounded stones.

Take care,
Thilo
