About Taken in Brazilian UF meeting.
Sé Central Station, São Paulo city?s core.

This photo belongs to a series taken from up to down.. due to another site?s purpose. I like it because the banana...( tried it in bw.. but I?d loose the banana against the bg)... and because it denunciates a social situation.. but keeping the man anonymous.
All critiques are wellcome!!

Carmem, you're right about the color, and the facelessness really makes the comment. The solitary silver coin is also a strong statement. very moving photograph. I never have the courage to take these - thank you.

Dear Carmem,
Thank you for sharing this photo.. There are many homeless people who are starving.. Sometimes, someone should remind us our humanity. Photography is the best way for explaining this..
Best wishes,
CAgatay

A proposta era uma foto tirada up to down, mesmo...
"..taken from behind the man you got the simple background for the image. Also the coin in his hand can be seen now. ..."

Very poignant capture Carmem. The detail and angle are excellent but it is the man's position, his open hand, looking at the coin, that makes this. The banana at his side, for later. The coin has all his attention, what to do with it, his cupped hand holding it in wonder. One can only guess what he is thinking, despair? as this is simply not enough or joy? what he can buy with this little amount. Well done.

Beautiful and yet powerful message you send with this photo. this is a realitty we have to live with in Latin america, and sometime we just forget there are people that not only are hungry but also what is worst for me, lonely.
I'm going to Brazil next week, both Sao Paulo and Rio, lets see if I can see the wonders you've capture so far! ;-)
Cheers

Dear Carmem.

you managed to capture the somehow depressing subject in a very positive way. the vivid colors, the great clarity... this transports the man into our life - and that's where he belongs.

nice social journalism.

Take care,
thilo

powerful - the hand holding the coin says so much - I agree with you - BW would have ruined the mood - not only the banana but the state of his clothes would have been lost - good one. K

Margaret Sturgess   {K:49403} 12/2/2004
I think it is good in colour, and I think you may have most more than just the banana - I think his clothing colours really add to the impact of the composition. Excellent composition, although as already commented - very sad that it seems all he has is the banana and a coin.
Margaret
Thank you for your comment and yes I did see the 'sunset reflected in the car when you posted it'

This reminds me offering some food to a beggar in India, where the donation was though to the ground, and a demand for dollars or euros...

Your capture suggests that there is a face that needs to be captured... for the edge of the cheek looks of interest... while the banana will keep in vitamin D...

The UF meeting must have been... as they say in the UK... a HOOT!

Hi Carmem,

Simple photograph, screams LOUD!
So well done, really makes me sad, he is an older person who shouldn't have to be where he is...

The image itself is so well composed, perfect!
Very well done, and I like the camera angle very much!

Lori :)

Hello Carmem!
This is a very good photo of the man!
It seems this is all He has left, a coin and a banana.
Makes this kind of sad but nonetheless compelling!
Well done! My best.........JOHN
