About Choosing a "best photo" is a very subjective thing. For me, this is something that brings a smile to my lips every time I see it. I just hope that it is has something that goes beyond my familiarity and affection for this little girl. I showed a larger crop of this image before in a little triptych: http://www.usefilm.com/image/332150.html

I love therefore a lot the film, that great grain that possesses! you have captured an exceptional expression, and you have joined it to the large one of the square format and the DOF! the greater space on the sinsitra sends the look to the photographer! like saying: ehi you see to me!!

Hi Stefan

I choose well.
What it's important is what you feel, and if the strongest felling (of 2004) is with this photo... this is the best!
I agree with Hugo, the grainy effect gives almost everything; the child eyes makes the the point.

Best regards,
Cheers

Had me looking back to David Malcolmsons site.
What a show that was.

I assume you saw it.

Stefan it's been an interesting year, my photography has not measurably improved but it's been interesting and I'm getting a baseline I guess.
So good for their self concept this work. Her life enhanced. I prefer the Nikomat shot but that's me and cameras of that vogue. I guess this is best as portraiture having no props.
Thanks for your support looking forward to next year. I've been out of touch so will put you on one of my list so's I can keep up.

Well, how could you go wrong with this little subject? Just one still image, yet I feel I know (and like) a lot about her personality. She seems mischievious and loving and open to adventure, all in one quick glance. You have chosen an unforgettable little character as the subject of your best of 2004!

Hello Svend - thank you very much for your eloquent comment which sums up just exactly how I feel about this photo.

Technically it's a good photograph with a complete tonal range and fine modelling of her features. But of course it's about the feeling: her inquisitive look just past the viewer at all the grand possibilities in her future. Rgds, Svend

Hi Stefan, I quite agree... a "Best Photo" sure is a subjective thing, but I do think this one qualifies, the composition and lighting are quite exceptional, and I love the expression in this (your?) little girls' eyes. Inquisitive and happy. The DOF, as well as the grain is definately an addition. Very good shot.

Cheers,

Hugo

this sweetface goes beyond any familiarities and becomes one of the most beautiful child portraits i?ve seen... the intimacy and love through which the theme is approached is immediately communicated to the viewer... it brings a huge warm smile to us too... an excellent choise!!!! emy :)
