I don't think there is anything you could improve. It is a natural shot of him focused on his artwork :) I like that he his hold two with both his hands.
I don't like the tight croping many do. I think a tight framing works great sometimes but it is a little overused IMHO. Many times it feels claustrophobic or the subject being squeezed in.
I used to frame and crop very tight also, but opened my mind (litteraly :) latley. Take a look at the fantastic work from Andreas Hering: http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/24270.html He has a lot of air around his subjects without any loss of focus on the subject at all.

Mel, I do like that crop too. I haven't been into cropping much lately. I'll have to start considering that more for a different pov.

Tiff, I especially love the two handed coloring! Maybe he will be ambidexterous? (NO CLUE how to spell that LMAO!)
Have you considered trying some creative cropping? Not that it would IMPROVE the photo, but just change it a little. I have been having a lot of fun experimenting with some creative cropping lately.
You can take it or leave it, I just thought I'd throw it out there. I'm not saying you need to improve this photo... it's just an idea ;o)

I think it draws a little more attention to him and his crayons. It's kind of a big crop, but just for fun! |

Very ncie shot! I love that you left it in color... it looks great! The lighting looks great as well! I love how he's got random marker spots on him and the motion blur of the red crayon in his left hand really adds a lot to the photo... it is a great effect. Excellent shot :) You have a adorable son! ~Rachel~
