About I thought I would finally show you our local Lake Maraboon/Fairbairn Dam. This is where I get most of my images from, especially the cliffs and the sunsets.

The water covers an area of 15000 hectares - 37065.6 acres and the shore line is 256 kilometres - 159 miles. It has 1,146,000 mega litres. BTW, it is only 30% full at the moment. My magical place is located in the distance to the left of the image. The bridge you see over the dam is a two lane road, just to give you an indication of its size. I think you can even see a car on the overpass in the image. This is where all our town water comes from. It hasn't flowed over the dam for many years. Legend has it, there are large machinery under the water at the base of the dam. The dam was meant to be a lot bigger and the macinery was beeing used and then the big rains came and the men managed to scramble out in time, but the machinery got left behind and has never been recovered.

I apologize for the sky glare. There wasn't much I could do about that. My polarizer hadn't arrived at that stage.

And when the summer comes, you will be wishing for the cold...hehehe!! Happens to us all, unfortunately.

Fab shot Judi. The weather looks great, in stark contrast to the dreary winter weather we've got here. This has made me start thinking of the summer to come. Thanks

Thankyou Andree. My main reason for wanting to try the polarizer on this image was to take two shots. One with the polarizer and one without. And then blend them both on the computer to give a bolder sky with the detailed foreground.

Polarize against the sun don't work, dear... Who said it is not a good picture? You can use a ps filter...if you like!
Kisses.

Clean exposure and composition. Conveys the feeling of man-made landscape. The composition really shows the immensity of the dam. Would be interesting to see it with the Polarizer, but I feel that it is good as it is.

Threatening them with going to the opposition usually works wonders..... Another thing to do (common way of doing things here) is to close the account and open it again with a new number. Guaranteed to stop any frauds!

Thank you for sharing your local lake... I see that it is not a small one .. Color combination and your framing is good.

You gave me such a laugh with your comment. As for the banks...yeah right. I asked them if they can stop the next one that company is going to try and take out this month...and their reply was...'I don't know'. Grrrr!!

You sure the water rationing thing isn't just Damion's excuse for shared baths and showers? ;-)
I hate the scammers who use your card details and steal money from your accounts. At least you should be covered by your card company against fraud. Same thing happened to my Dad. They took NZ$10k out of his! He got it all back though without too much problem. Good luck in getting it sorted Judi.

Thanks Alastair. We are on permanent water rations. It was more strict though last year when we hit 13% capacity.

One of the things about Australia that I always find impressive is the sheer scale of the place and the size of the engineering works! You could probably drop the county of Lancashire into that lake! And if a reservoir here were only 30% full the water companies would be in full panic mode! Thank you for sharing this Judi!

Regards and a hug,

Alastair
