This panorama collage is too large for 800 pixels... A shame...
It was shot at Mirante Dona Marta, a vista point above a mountain smaller than Corcovado, right in from of it. I'd say it's around 400/450 meters above sea level while Corcovado is about 750. From left to right we have Guanabara bay, Niterói (city on the other side of the bay), Sugar Loaf, Botafogo beach (right in front of it), Leme and Copacabana (behind two mountains, you can see its fortress between through the opening between the mountains), Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon and Corcovado with Christ right above it. It looks like a cross because it is with arms open, like the replicas on "Souvenirs".
I used Kodak's Portra 160 VC and found it very sensible to color changes. And VERY difficult to scan, hard to fine tune colors. Don't plan to use it again, unless on more controlled situations. Any of Kodak's Gold would've done better, I believe, it's a dependable film with nice colors.
The differences on the sky's color is natural, due to light polarization. The sky at 90? from the Sun (above the ocean, in the middle of the collage) will naturaly look more saturated, even without a polarizing filter which I wasn't using.
Hope all of you enjoy the view - if possible personally someday.
that is definitely a different take on panoramic photos! The structure is great, the curvature makes the realism and drama of it really come out, and it looks like a series of postcards that you could buy and put together, rules well broken and a fantastic artistic take on panorama's!
thanks for the comment. I agree with you on the sky colors. If I had shot slides it woudln't be that much a concern but shooting print film you have the "minilab factor" thet makes colors look stranger due to its auto features and interpretations.
The inspiration for this work came from David Hockney's photo collages and the need to show more than the 35mm frame can handle. If you do a fast search I believe you'll find references should you not know it.
waaaaaaaaaaaow.... i like the structured way uv put all the pics in.... its looking gr8 and the panaroma is also awsome. the difference of the blue in sky adds the drama..
