This is something I happen to do on the side...shoot interiors on high-end projects, and from my perspective, this is excellent. I agree about the issue with the light coming from the door, but you have explained yourself there. This is the angle I would have chosen, and you've done a great job capturing the make-up of this space. I almost never use flash, and for that reason shoot during daylight, but will include lighted fixtures as you have. This gives realistic color and pleasing tones. The reflecting lights everywhere add sparkle or pizzazz. It's what shiney fixtures and slick surfaces do, and people tend to enjoy it (that's why they put all the lights and glass and metal there...they're into shiney sparkly...lol). Your practice of combining exposures is a terrific idea I've yet to employ...thanks. Antonia

Hey Pat, This is a great kitchen for 30,000!! I'd buy it. Tough situation to shoot, very difficult. I know, I've been in construction for 20+ years and Architechural shots are challenging. The shot is very good and emphasizes the strong points of the design and layout of the kitchen. The light from the side door does throw the overall balance of the lighting out of whack, but as you say in one of the comments, you had 10 minutes to set up and shoot. I think you made the best out of a less than favorable lighting situation. Nice job....-mm

Hi Alex. Believe it or not I only had 10 minutes to do this. I came in, set up the tripod, framed and shot. I usually do 2 exposures for situations like this one. One at 1 sec and the other at less than half. Then in Photoshop, you overlap the photos and delete the overexposed area. Unfortunately I didn't have time...
I think the light thru the door is kinda cool though.
Cheers
Pat

For someone that clearly has no photographic experience, judging by your portfolio, you demand too much

Hehe... Very well done shot... Interior photography is quite tough... This very well shows everything in perfect detail. The door/window is a little overexposed and very bright, but there wasn't much you could do to compensate that yet keep the brightness and smoothness that you have maintained in all the inside details... There is just quite a bit happening with light from all over and reflections in every corner, but it's generally a solidly smooth shot...

Oops. Make that 'granite,' not 'marble.'
Although that white square in between the coffee machine and the knives could be anything.

There's way to much light coming in through the windows for a full second exposure. The marle top under the window is washed out by all that light. Worse, that ugly reflection in the floor draws the eye straight to the equipment-filled wall on the right, which is the weakest part of the shot. I'd take a few steps to the left, move the chairs a bit to the right, and shoot this pic in the evening or find another way to get rid of that overdose of daylight.
The way the vertical lines on the right wall are curved can be fixed by rotating the entire frame a little to the left.
Or simply don't change anything. The owner of this kitchen has more money than taste and this picture is a good way to punish him for that.

The glass and the marble are so clean, this is the kind of shot that makes me think I want that, then somewhere below this gorgeous shot is the price tag.

Well it's a $30,000 kitchen. All stainless steel and granite tops.
Very high end. I guess it is supposed to look kinda sterile.

Yes I realise that...but I was just giving my own opinion on their choice of colours. The shot is great, very clear but you would think they would have chosen a more appealing colour scheme.

Judi I am photographing someone's kitchen for a magazine. I can't change the colors or alter anything.
The photo should reflect the kitchen the way it actually is...
You will see if u ever do commercial work.
