Another view of this great monument taken this afternoon... not Roman (my mistake)
Built by Astronomer Andronikos, from Kyrrhos in Macedonia. It is an octagonal tower of pentelic marble standing on a base with three steps. It has a conical roof, a cylindrical annex at the outside and two propyla at the N.E and N.W sides. A bronze weather vane with the figure of a Triton, indicated the direction of the winds, personifications of which are carved in relief at the top of each of the sides. Beneath each wind, curved rays in various forms considted a sunclock. During cloudy days and nights a waterclock installation was used instead, in the building, for time calculation (middle 1st c. B.C.)
in this shot Warren three different eras co-exist... an ancient greek monument, a Mosque and a greek orthodox church...... thank you for your so kind comments and support take care Marian
Very nice work Marian (as usual....) I like the almost contrast with the tower in the foreground and the more recent buildings further back in the frame. Good shot.
