About What is Orange?
Orange is a tiger lily, a carrot
A feather from a parrot,
A flame, the wildest color you can name.
Orange is a happy day
Saying good-bye, in a sunset that shocks the sky.
Orange is brave. Orange is bold
It?s bittersweet, and marigold.
Orange is zip, Orange is dash
The brightest stripe in a Roman sash.
Orange is an orange, also a mango
Orange is music of the tango.
Orange is the fur of the fiery fox,
The brightest crayon in the box.
And in the fall when the leaves are turning
Orange is the smell of a bonfire burning.
(Mary O?Neill)

And Orange is:

On January 22, 2003 Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, announced that the city has given permission to New York artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude to realize their temporary work of art:The Gates, Central Park, New York, 1979-2005.

The 7500 Gates, 16 feet (4.87 meters) high with a width varying from 5' 6" to 18 feet (1,67 m to 5,48 meters) will follow the edges of the walkways and will be perpendicular to the selected 23 miles of footpaths in Central Park. Free hanging saffron colored fabric panels suspended from the horizontal top part of the gates will come down to approximately 7 feet ( 2,13 meters) above the ground. The gates will be spaced at 12 foot (3,65 meter) intervals, except where low branches extend above the walkways allowing the synthetic woven panels to wave horizontally towards the next gate and be seen from far away through the leafless branches of the trees. The temporary work of art The Gates is scheduled for February 2005, to remain for 16 days, then the 7,500 Gates shall be removed and the materials will be recycled.

Yes Jim, we all have the creative minds or we wouldn't be here. haha This was a lot of fun to be able to photograph and I will still put another few on although I took way too many. You cannot imagine the amount of cameras around. I was surprised not to see tons of photos on usefilm. Alison

Great shot Alison, I like the way you got the curve of the path hidden behind the trees. Great info about it too.

Excellent perspective on this one! This one really gives us the feel of what it's like to walk through them. Very well done Alison!

Alison, I saw the interview with Christo and Jeanne-Claude on 60 Minutes Sunday night and thought how neat it would be to photograph this and shair it UF, and now you've done it.
Great minds think alike, dont they???
Good job

You captured the shot at a great angle. Twenty million dollars for a two week showing is quite extraordinary. If it were me, I would of sent the money to Africa to feed the poor people.

Another great view of the 'gates' - looks like a lot of people wanted to partake of the experience! I like the way it winds almost out of the frame, then back in to come across the top! I think it would also look cool to crop out the sky and buildings and have it all be orange/brown.

nice image .... but IMHO .... if u remove the colours .... make it black & white, and just leave those orange colours, it will make it more standout

.... anyway .... nice pix
