Beautiful macro Peter. This one I think it's the best. Hij lijkt zo de photo binnen te lopen, prachtig. Femke

I made the photos handheld, indeed, aperture and shutterspeed permit to do that. The 50mm 1.8 that is in reverse, is set completely opened on the camera before mounting it in reverse. So light is no problem. DOF sure is very thin, only a millimeter or so.. for this shot, the lens could rest on my wrist, waiting for the bug to get in the focus field ;-)
I used 2 P-type rings (Cokin) that i glued together with some metal glue .. works fine like that.
I don't understand your last question, what do you mean "when i do it 2x".. do what ?

Why is it cute? I think too that it's cute... but sometimes I wonder if we feel that because we "learnt" when we were children that they are cute.
I mean... if you really think about it, it looks like other bugs (that we find ugly) but the colour is different. I have thought a lot about this... Why do we find them so cute?
Anyway... it IS cute! A really great photo with very interesting details! Very hairy face... especially for being a lady... haha.

Wow, even closer, I can see he is eating the little particles of food from you finger :) these are really wonderful macro shots, I never did get the 50mm in reverse theory, I have tried but it always seems so dark I needed a flashlight in my mouth, are you doing this handheld, do you have a adapter to connect the two lenes, sorry for all the questions, what do you get when you do this 2x more or less? thanks... Marcus...
