About Inspired by the great teachings of Dan Lightner. Bryan Jarmain gave me the idea for the title, thanks. Here if I was (and I will) to do it again I would use a bigger piece of glass to give me more room to work underneath and a bigger background card/material so you do not see the other colours in the drops. The flower used was an vibrant pink gerbera and you will be seeing some more shots of them later.

As always camera settings:
Super Macro enabled, window light used so white balance set to cloudy. Compression to a minimum, resolution to a maximum, ISO 64. Tripod and timer release used.

Hi James,

This is not a cliché for me as I haven't seen this approach before. Quite thought provoking! I have something similar with a £20 note in mind, but I don't pretend to understand how you did this, so perhaps you should have a go!!

The more I look at this, the more I think of umbrellas & bowler hats, so perhaps subconsciously I HAVE seen this sort of thing before? Very interesting all the same!

Regards
Steve.

It looks like lots of us have become Lightner protoges! Fun, isn't it? Nice shot. I like the yellow background...it adds a bit of punch.

You've got a great result using Dan's technique. It really does seem to work particularly well with flowers. But yes, a bigger background card would help.

James, this is another really cool photo. I think your choice of colours for the previous one were more complementary - I liked the red blue yellow combination a lot. You may also want to also try red green and blue - I have seen that this combination can results in really stunning effects. This is a supurb photo - keep perfecting.

Take a look at Dan Lightner's portfolio on here, he has the details on the technique but basically its water on rain-x treated glass. Thanks.

It's excellent, colorful.. although I don't know how you did it!! how make the water drops fall & reflct the flower behind them?

Looks like a pink tree reflected in the drops. This is really well done. And I like that 'eyespot' on each as well. And the different sized drops give the sense that they are floating in the air, suggesting a false perspective, rather than resting on the 'platen'.

No PS edits at all just a curves adjustment and a little unsharp mask. I have attached the origional so you can see what I have done(very little). Check out Dan's portfolio for details on the technique. Thanks for your comment.
