Hi Paul. Thanks for commenting. It's been so long since I worked on this image, that I don't recall exactly what I did. I think I selected her (I use Photoshop), then under the Select pulldown menu chose Inverse, so that when I blurred the image, it blurred the background. -- Naomi

I can surely see why you like the photo. I like this type of look myself. She makes a winning subject doesen't she? I think you did an excellent job. I'm still not that far advanced and did not quite undertand all the steps you took. Like why did you create another back ground for her and then blur the original. I must be missing something. I do know that when I do the selecting with the magic lasso and paste it to a back ground The edges always show. How did you get it too look so good. I have heard that you would use the feather tool or whatever its called......but I have not yet learned to work that tool. Is that what you do?
Again this is a wonderful photo in which I most enjoyed viewing. Thank you!

Thank you, Karmela, for your comments about my "experiment". Your photo "A Look" is a great shot with the hawk and man. Good depth of field. Nicely done. -- Naomi

Excellent. Simple soft and blur made this smiling face even more interesting. Experiment is well done!

I agree with you about making the background less distracting, but the blurred version somehow makes the shadow on the face look unnatural. Of course, with such a difference in the lighting on the face, it's hard to get it right. Maybe 50% of the blur factor would be a compromise? It's a great image, worth working on. Thanks for your insightful comment on "I Don't Understand Why..."

Hai Naomi Experimenting with the camera or with the hat? Either is good. I like the mood of the pic more than anything.

What a great expression you capture here. I like the PS work, it really highlights the boy's wonderful expression. Maybe you can add some light to this face to fully see him. I would try the fill flash feature in PS. I like the original because it puts him in context, but it's a completely different image. Excellent capture, though -- Kind regards, Rafael

I really like this photo. It's a great example of documentary work. She has such a great expression. The original photo is nice because it tells party of her story, but the experimental shot is a little less distracting. I like both.
