the blur was added digitally with the intent to draw your eye toward the cut, the central message of the image.

I too am confused. So confused I was going to ask where the camera is here. Obviously it's behind the lens... but I'm thinking are you suggesting a plane here that isn't here... nice image

Nice diagonal composition of the cut. I do not understand how the edges are both getting blurry - one would think that the cut is going horizontally across a tree? Is is an edit?
