I know the place very well - close to St Oswald's (?) church. Very nice composition, which distributes the different aspects perfectly. Excellent!

Reminds me of the house in "Lemony Snicket" when it burned down. Great colors - with the magnificent details of the remains, it makes you wonder how incredible this must have been before it all...

Vey nice composition of what looks like some beautiful ruins. I like the contrast between the hard stone edges and the softer more natural trees.

Thanks

The 'rule of thirds' is one of the rules of composition that sees a criss-cross-quiz grid superimposed on the image ~ i.e. two vertical lines crossing two horizontal lines, dividing the frame into nine equally sized pieces. Where the lines cross are what are known as the 'Golden Points' ~ good spots at which to place your main subject?

Your picture seems to be roughly one vertical third trees and two vertical thirds ruin ~ which (IMHO) makes for a good composition.

Does that help? Or have I confused you even more? )

Kind regards, Chris

Thanks again so much Chris !! I really don,t know all the terms used in photography as yet but I am learning (vertical thirds) no idea..

York's a beautiful city in which to shoot, Julie!
Nice shot of this 'old ruin'.
I like the use of vertical 'thirds'.
Best regards, Chris
