About I don't usually work in black and white but perhaps this shot works better that way. I would appreciate knowing which version the Usefilm community likes better, this B&W version or the color version (http://www.usefilm.com/image/768883.html)

In processing the picture to post here, I noticed that much of the fine detail in the darker portions is lost. I haven't had much success bringing them out in processing the image for the web.

As before, the acutal exposure is 1/500 at f/4.5

I think the lighting at the top of the falls really looks great in b/w. wonderful scenery!

Some times B&W go ahead to the colour one,
Thisone is the example.
Very good sense of dynamism, I feel from your photograph. The composition is also beautiful.
Very well done.

a very nice study of water, inspite of some loss in shadow detail due to the web-oriented processing. the water itself is the main player, so i can live without the detailed rocks.

Interesting to compare the color and B&W versions. I think the color version has a more dimensional and life-like quality than does the B&W, but I actually like the B&W better for just that reason. The B&W version looks a little more abstract and fantastic (as in fantasy) while still retaining the sense of motion and power of the water. I actually like that some shadow detail is lost because it adds to that abstract and fantastic quality I mentioned. The B&W version looked a little less lively somehow, slightly duller than the color version. More contrast might help but that will cause you to lose more shadow detail and probably blow out some of the highlight detail. It could be that selectively sharpening some of the water segments in the white water could help there using the sharpen tool in PS (in the tool palette with the blur tool). The overall sharpness of the image is quite good, I was just thinking that you might selectively sharpen tio liven it up a bit. Alternatively you could try using the select lasso tool to define certain parts of the white water and then selectively increase the contrast in the selected regions.

Very nice work, I loved both photos.

Jim, I like the color version best, more detail besides I am of the old school(senior citizen) that had only black and white for my early years.

Very nice, like the detailed captured with the water droplets. You mentioned in your about the lack of detail in the shadows. I've had some luck using the Gamma slider to bring out detail in those areas.
Thanks for your comment on my image.

The texture of the water is wonderful. I usually like colour, however, I do like this B&W version. Mot sure why, just do. Great picture.

I think that the colour version has a bit more "summer day" sort of sparkle, but the b&w is really strong - the water really pounds. So essentially two different photographs. Excellent work on both of them.

I prefer the bw image, Jim,, I know what you mean when you say that fine detail in the darker portions is lost.. I find that i regularly need to lower the contrast using the levels controls in photoshop to get the full tonal range.. great shot here by the way.. i kept coming back to this one.. i love it..

I think I like this one better, Jim-- the blue in the corner of the other distracted from the water on the other one. this one is much more powerful.

This shot captures an incredible amount of power Jim. The exposure values are somewhat opposite from what I normally use on moving water shots, but it works very well to capture the detail in this case.

Chris

imressive! The short shutter time makes the water look so wild and almost like millions of little crystals. The light is fantastic.

This photograph could not be more perfect! I adore the image and the sensation of the water being poured down stream right before ones eyes. Remarkable. I adore the fact that you chose to use black and white for it only adds more detail into the water cascading over the rocks. Fabulous!

Stunning, as I am partial to black and white photos. the black really highlights the water which I feel is the main focus of your shot. I say well done!
