oh there is another memphis photographer who has his work in a gallery on south main but for the life of me I do not remember his name. He took a lot of photos of famous people. It is not on south main but just off on a side street. When i am down there wed nite I will try to find the name. Also, there is a show of all the galleries the last friday of the month I think You can check playbook to make sure. Most of it is art but some galleries have photography.

Ya know, I feel bad for saying this but I wasn't aware of Eggleston until recently. I had heard the name before and we have a couple of his books here but I've never looked at them. Then I read last week in the Playbook about the film festival and my husband told me he lives in Memphis and that we have his books here - why haven't I looked at them? Ummmm...maybe cause I'm busy with 2 toddlers all day lol. So I looked through one of them and I told my husband it looks just like stuff I take pictures of that I really didn't get the big deal, but he said to put it in perspective and how at that time color photography wasn't popular and neither was taking pictures of the ordinary. I looked through one of the books and hopefully will get to look through another tonight. I *really* liked his film. To me, a person can't be raised in the south and not have experienced a taste of what that film included - the eccentricy and lunacy.
This coke machine was on a farm I visited over the weekend. It had a bottle opener near the bottom. The vertical shot I took of it didn't turn out too well.
Are you familiar with any local photographers? I worked for Birney Imes in college, but with newspaper not photography. I want to get to know more about southern photographers - Eudora Welty and others. Do you have any recommendations on some I should check out?

now this definitely has an Eggleston look to it. In fact I just looked at some of his on the net and he had something that looked like this tone. Once again something simple yet very nice, where on earth did you find this old Coke machine lol
