Oh no, don't buy a different lens! The 50 mm lens is a wonderful portrait lens on a digital camera. It is actually my favorite lens and is on my camera almost all the time. The only thing to keep in mind is it has a large aperture of f/1.4 (or f/1.8) and that means very little depth of field. So you need to focus presicely. If you stop it down to f/5.6 it is much less critical. But to me the small DOF is what I love about this lens. It creates a wonderful soft look without compromising in quality or looking all soft like "Hamilton".
The only "suggestion" I have is use the AF sensor that's on the eyes.

any suggestions on a different lens to buy? Thanks for your comments. She did look so sweet and I wish the pic would have come out sharper but that's what it's all about. Next time maybe I will get it better right?!?!

don't worry about the focus. It can be extremely hard with that lens. The DOF is very small and even small movements need refocusing. I really don't mind that it is a little soft. Its so cute!
