About This guy flew into the house yesterday and I caught him in a glass. I let him tire himself out and then took him out onto the back porch glass table. I set my camera up on him (while he was still in the glass) and got my focus down. I had time to catch him in this shot as well as a few frontal shots before he flew off to continue collecting his nectar.

James, I can't belive I missed this one! WOW.. Nice catch and release... :-) Gorgeous photo.. great light!

I might get some heat for this but, Pick up a can of Ether based starting fluid at your automotive store. spray a tiny bit on a q-tip and put it in there with him.. (be very carful with the ether!! And don't O.D. the critter). Just slows em down a bit. it wears off and they fly away.....

Stunning macro, Jim, even if you did slow him down! Well done!

James that is a wonderful macro, great detail, perhaps you should have painted the table with a little sugar water and tried to get him to stay around a little longer

I bet he was terrified - not all captures end so well for them! :) EXCELLENT shot. Don't know how you do it - even with the detailed explaination. I admire your thinking - I would've been thinking of just getting him out of the house.

Ok, now I understand. Just remember....take a break and make me a coffee and pretend I am sitting there stirring you. I hope you get a laugh or two...you need it.

Thanks Larry, I also like to put my subjects in the refridgerater to slow down their metabolism. It never kills them if you are careful.

Well....I was wondering how you got this close until I read the explanation...these guys move a lot and getting a quality closeup like this is almost impossible..

Very well done Jim

Clever idea to wear your subjects out first. This is a beautifully detailed shot, it's amazing how pretty they can be up close. Alison

Thanks Judi, yes I got your email and I want to write a nice reply which is why I haven't replied yet. Yes, there are some issues but I am doing OK. Work has become a priority for me at this time and all I can do is sneak in a pic or so and comment on front page photo's. I have basically had a complete staff turnover so I have been doing alot of the work myself. Hopefully after our Memorial Day Holiday (end of May) things will get back to normal.

Fantastic idea.....and excellent macro detail.

Thankyou so much Jim for your comments on my work.

BTW, did you get my email. You are worrying me at the moment. I know something is wrong.
