About I have to admit I am really pleased with my fly series. They really turned out good. I believe I have found a unique macro style and I really like it. Let me know if you all agree.

Shutter Speed 1/45 sec.
2X Extension Tube

The addition of an extension tube to my camera bag has really opened up my macro photography to new depths.

Enjoy

Gustav, thank you so much for your nice comment and sharing with me the equipment you use. It really means a lot coming from you as I love your photo's and respect you as a photographer. Keep on shootin:) I always focus manual when doing macro's, autofocus is just to iffy when that close and you will end up fine tuning anyways.

Great macro image.7++++ I do use the same 2,8 /100mm Canon lens and also a Canon Extension Tube EF25 II. But at times I do also use a Leica f:2,8/60mm Macroelmarit with a special adapter. In this case I can only work in manual mode as far as the adjustment of the focus is concerned....
I dolike your macro images very much. This type of photography takes time and a lot of patience but at the same time it is very rewarding as you know.
Yes, your fly series are very good and I am looking forward to some more wildlife images.
Keep well and have a GR8 weekend.
Best regards,
Gustav

Thanks Judi, I have been having fun. I feel rejuvinated. It was frustrating for awhile because I'm going to have to wait for sunrises till later in the year. The doggone sun moved on me (can you imagine that;)and I don't really have anything (decent compositions) in the immediate area to capture.

One great shot after another! Like the irridescent colors on the wings. Your macros really do bridge photography and art.

Amazing colors on the wings, your dof really brings out the beauty of the fly. Alison

Robin, I used 1/45 sec for a shutter speed but generally when I am doing macro work I use aperture priority and let the camera meter choose the shutter speed. When using an extension tube there are so many variables as to how to get the dof you want. If you notice most of my macros I shoot at F/2.8 which will give me very little dof to begin with. But with the extension tube you can also play with how close you are to your subject to increase or decreas the dof. Mind you theres not much play. Most of these shots I am as close as 3 inches from the subject, however you can also go about 6 or 8 inches away also which will increase the dof a bit more. You going to have to use a tripod most of the time when using an extension tube because camera shake will really be magnified. I also use a remote shutter release and mirror lockup. Another important thing to remember is your background has to be pleasing to begin with and late afternoon or morning light will give you the nicest light. Then again a cloudy day will give you good saturation and you could set your camera's white balance for cloudy which will automatically warm it up a bit for you. Finally, shoot in raw format if you can and leartn how to develop your picture in PS. I've touched on a lot of thigs right here and hope it helps a bit:)

your fly series is outstanding, Jim. I, for one, like your Macro style very much. It takes more than an extension tube to make a great macro. It takes a photographer! Regards, Larry

Jim, I agree!!
Looking at all the nice comment, I'm not the onlyone who likes it.
The colours in the wings are great in this shot.
Nice to findout, you're using the same macrolens as I do... Tomorrow I put an extensionring on it to find out what difference it makes..
I hope it helps to make the great DOF...?
What shutterspeed did you use on thisone?
crtz,
Robin
