Dear Angelo, Yeah I PLAN to go digital but I'm gonna wait one or two more generations / rotations plus my EOS 3's are in such good shape that it'd be just a giant waste. BTW, I'm flying by the seat of my pants on this scanning thing so if you have any advice on settings for PS Elements 2.0 let me know. I'm just using it the way my assistant had it set up. I know how to do certain things but I sure don't feel like I have it mastered. So if you have any tips feel free to pass them on, OK? It'd be highly appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Mark,
That's a long story for sure... :)
If that's the way it looked, then that's the way it looked. It looked funny with funny colours hahaha. And you captured the moment very well!
I also like shooting, capturing... then I don't have enough time to process, categorize, upload and print everything.
I always wanted to to more darkroom work but never really had access to a proper "wet" darkroom. Shooting in RAW on the 10D allows me to do that to a large degree.

Hi Arwa, no, it's not possible because we were driving around in a kind of heavy duty mini van with a pop up roof / top so you can't really go any higher. I was lucky to get a front row standing spot. Thanks for stopping by, Mark

The thing that I like the most about this image is the contrasting colors! the colors of the grass that are as vivid as the black and white stripes! And that awesome blue sky? The sharpness and amount of details are astonishing too! Did you take another one with a higher point of view so that the zebra would be completely framed in the grass?

Dear Angelo, the story is I had an assistant (and another one before this latest one) that scanned for me in the past and put it on a disk or the hard drive. He's gotten very busy with his own photography so I slowly took over doing the whole thing in the last few months but that's not to say I'm a real expert at doing all this stuff. I'm doing all slides (no flatbed prints as of now - he did all the ones in the past) and putting it through the Nikon coolscan 4000 (I think). I have a Mac G4 desktop set - up so what I try to do is keep the image as close as possible to the look of the original slide. Of course they all go through PS elements 2.0 but that's mainly for cropping and getting it a bit darker or lighter so they look right on the computer screen (but IMO I don't consider that real PS treatment. I just think that's making adjustments that have to be done when going from film to computer screen). I checked the slide on the light table and it pretty much looks like this. The sky's a bit of a strange blue, IMO, but that's how it looked on the slide. Now I'm typing this on a G4 powerbook laptop and the shots look a bit different than the G4 tabletop. So that's the story. I'm not the most technically up to speed guy but I think the images on UF turn out very close to the original positives (unless it says PS used which to me means that I've done some - or a lot of - work with different elements) To be honest with you by far my favorite part of photography is shooting - always has been. The rest is kind of a big pain and that's why I avoided doing it but it's time to get into it I suppose. BTW, even though I punch in Kodak Ektachrome 100 usually I've gone with Kodak on all it's different Ektachromes they've put out and discontinued (would have just stuck with Fuji Velvia all along but I don't like 50 iso. Now that they have 100 I might switch to that but have been happy with the Kodak VS series of Ektachromes - I think they finally got it right with VS but I do have to try Velvia 100 up against it) I have always liked to keep it simple but these days that's not possible anymore so I'm somewhat reluctantly trying to go along with the flow (it's the new world of Photography but for better or for worse I have to accept it) That's it in a nutshell, All the best, Mark PS wow, was THAT a long one (too much coffee - such an addict - LOL)........

Mark,
The colours are kind of funny. Scanning?
Apart from that nit-picking technical detail, I like the expression of the zebra. Very good timing and also nice placement of the horizon in the frame.
