Switzerland has a long tradition of direct democracy. All the citizens are called several times a year to give their vote for topics of national or regional interests. Alpthal, a tiny community in the central Swiss mountains consistently voted "no". To the point, that it attracted the interest of foreign medias. This picture (taken in 1992) shows the president of this community in front of his house, proud to defend his village against any modernist influence. The person was actually rather camera shy, and this picture was the very last I took of about 3 rolls.
