Tannie Marietjie Nel, an elder of the Nama tribe, resident in a small community of goat herders (bokwagters) called Witbank, just a few kilometers west of the missionary town of Pella in the far Northern Cape, South Africa. This photo is the result of a process where the slide was scanned, then changed to monochrome and thereafter manipulated with the brightness/ contracst function in ps to produce pure white/ black. As old as she is, she is very sharp, naughty and witty. Seen here smoking her pipe whislt talking of n!thu... The series of 4 photos was taken in mid 2000.
