About	This digital composition of about a dozen exposures (of 3-4 minutes each) was taken near the peak of the Leonid meteor shower on the morning of November 19, 2002. This view is toward the radiant, where all the meteors seem to diverge from one coming point in the sky (due to perspective - the meteors travel in parallel paths). Some of the meteors so close to the radiant appear almost starlike in appearance since they are seen coming almost head-on toward the camera (fortunately they vaporize completely dozens of km's up ;-) The very bright object is the planet Jupiter. Photographed with a 28mm lens. This was the last time that the Leonids put on a really good show. We may have to wait until 2098 for the Leonids to be as good as they were on this night. Photograph is combined effort by Michael Vasseur and Pierre Martin.

This one gives me the feeling of being right there with the meteors coming straight at me. Wonderful! That was an amazing night. Too bad people in the cities can't enjoy these fabulous events. Terrific adn superb.

This crop of the original shows the location of the constellation Leo, where the radiant (point of perspective) of the meteors is located. I also circled in red some of the near-head-on meteors very near the radiant that appear almost like dots.
