About Went to Madrid, New Mexico yesterday (only ~45mi. away from my house) with my girlfriend yesterday. Got some very interesting pictures.

This particular shot is at the coal mine museum (I think that's what it was...). There, they have tons of old mining equipment, cars, trucks, a train. Lots of strange stuff. Great for photos.

EXACTLY what I had thought. I'm in the process of making a sepia-toned versions of this shot - one just like you had suggested and another completely sepia.

I guess its quite hard to decide which one works better, as they each have their own qualities. The only advantage I see with this one over the other, is that the details on the car seem to pop out better than in the b&w version. One of the reasons doing images in b&w can be tricky. Still, I am wondering if doing the walls in sepia rather than straight b&w would go together better with the car-esp. because the sepia tones compliment those of the car. Anyways, I like both shots for their own reasons, well done~

That's a great idea, James. I hadn't thought of doing this in B&W. I think I will. Thanks for the idea. The color shot isn't very impressive - there was tons of PS work on this shot.

Great shot. I'm not a fan of selective color though. The image would definately work in B&W, and I'm curious to know that a full color looks like.

Well there's a gigapixel FILM camera and there's a GP DIGITAL that is likely unknown to the general public that someone around here created. It's completely digital.

Morgan:

Looked it up on the internet. I realize that the gixapixel camera is not for me - massive negatives and a huge set up. I'm way too ameteur for that...

Let's talk stitching. mkanemoto@gmail.com

I'm kinda retarded and wanted to know what you meant by "I'll put in an order if they have a price out there...".

I would like to know how you stitched those photos together. They're seemless - very well done.

Morgan:

Let me know if you are interested in generating 24 MP images - I get there through photostitching. If you look in my usefilm portfolio for Pan-o-rama I can get some larger file sizes.

Yeah, they say there's a 54MB limit, which is fenormous.

Think I'm just gonna go ahead and order the big guy.

I was planning on scaling it and blurring and sharpening in PS. I have a book somewhere on how to accomplish good results that way. Thanks for the concern, though.

...If only I could shoot at 26MP...

Actually, a guy here where I work (Sandia Nat'l Laboratories designed and built a true 1-GIGAPIXEL digital camera. The shots are absoluletly insane - great for landscapes. I'm sure you're already drooling (as am I).

FYI:

12" x 24" at 300 dpi is 3600 x 7200 pixels... that is 26 megapixels... are you sure you are shooting at that resolution? Just scaling it up in PS will just make it blurry, unless you are using some special scaling software...

hey man:

The more resolution, the better. I think there is an upload limit to file size at ezpints. Just save the whole think as the highest possible quality JPG. Or you can order it as a little 4"x6" print as a test run before the big sucker.

Thanks again, Michael I have signed up and will load "Forgetten" on it tomorrow so I can get it printed.

Only 150dpi? I was thinking ~300dpi. Do you think that's too much for a ~12"x24"?

Michael Kanemoto Michael Kanemoto   {K:22115} 7/14/2005
Morgan:

Nope. I was recommended ez over other sources. Keep in mind you want to stick to about 150+ DPI for good results. My opinion only.

For smaller prints like 10" x 15" I go to Costco.

Thanks, Michael. I'm checking it out right now. Have you tried Kinko's or something similar?

Morgan:

Try ezprints.com - good results, low cost - they use the fuji paper and I have liked what I have seen. Turn the Auto-enhance off.

Thanks, Michael. So far, I think this is my favorite shot. I would like to get it printed - somewhere around 30" wide. I think it would look cool in a frame made of old barnwood.

Wouldn't have any idea how much the printing would cost would you?

Thanks for the offer, Todd. Not sure whether we'll have the time for that, but I would certainly be interested to meet a fellow UF user. Thanks!

Actually, the lightning picture was from my trip. ;^)

Have a safe one and have fun.

If you think you will be in Ottawa as well, that's where I live. It's about 1.5 hours from Montreal. My email is stormcrow@rogers.com. I can send you contact info if you like.

Wonderful shot!!! What a great find, view and composition... well spotted!!! I love the B&W versus color effect, that makes the car sort of 'jump' at you.... ;-D!!!
