About My el cheapo macro lens seems to be doing OK. Means I can forget about the tool and start learning how to take a good macro. Plenty of good examples on Usefilm, thank goodness. Sorry, once again I can't remember exposure detail. In most cases I can guess pretty accurately (as I would looking at the scene in real life). But I can't do that with macros... they're a whole different ball game.

Pity your wife doesn't like to fly, David. You can't wade here, alas. I'll keep snapping away but you'll never be able to imagine the sounds and smells! Much better to come and sample them for yourself...

Hello Roger,

I love the subject! I love the depth and colors of the flower. Wonderful capture. Wow living in Tokyo must be amazing. I would love to go to Japan, but my wife does not fly. Oh well, I have to live it through your beautiful images.

Very beautiful colour and lighting. A bit of noise which can be overcome with Neat Image or any other similiar programme. But the composition is spot on.

Thanks Roger for your comments.

Awesome Lily!

I agree, sorta. I'm sure that's why the pic got so many views...but people almost never leave comments on my pix anyway.
I even posted another shot of the cut...same thing is happening with the # of views )It did get a comment though...cut related.

And maybe it's less people on here looking too...We were both getting many many more views on our pix a couple of years ago compared to newer shots. There are a lot more sites like this out there now for people to use.

Yes, true a different ball game. For flowers, when harsh sunlight, I use a white umbrella creating indirect light and avoiding burned out spots by that. But that will cost you a stop or two. Nice work Roger. El cheapo is not bad at all.

Roger I like both the 'getting closer' shots. Some excellent detail and colours/tones in them. Glad you are enjoying the macro lens

Ellen, I'm greatly encouraged by your comment. Coming from you, it means a lot. Yes, I did change my film... this is my slow, summer emulsion (400 ISO!). I may even try the 200 ISO, which I know is a lovely, almost grain-free, film. You're right about "loner" flowers being easier! The compansion shot to this, showing the entire clump, is not nearly so effective, although I liked it enough to put it up as part of the record of my progress.

It's good to have you back, Chris. I've missed your friendly and encouraging words, and your beautiful pictures. The original Voigtlander went out of business in the 70s, and my own cameras are made by the Japanese Cosina, who bought the trademark from Rollie, who had briefly tried to keep it going. I think I'm getting the hang of macros... lots more to come.

Excellent Roger! The lighting and focus are stunning. Weather you intended it or not the noisy background is perfect. I would only suggest not crowding the flower IMHO it shouldn't have been cropped so tightly. I would like to have seen all the stamens. This is a beautiful flower and I would have been hard pressed to pass it by. I know now that it's hard to take a good macro from a crowed of flowers so I look for the strays.
I don't know if you changed film or not but the green in this shot is MAGNIFICENT.
By George I think he's got it! Well done Roger.
Best Regards,
Ellen

Excellent macro, Roger!!
Very good colour and sharpness!
Best regards, Chris
P.S. Whilst in Belfast this past weekend, staying with a wonderful Christian family, the grandad, (an Irishman who had married a German wife), asked if I'd liked to see his camera. I'd never seen one like it before? It was a Voigtlander, complete with original leather case!!!
