Thank you Yamil. (BTW no image was attached.) I was shooting at ISO 400 for 1/200 sec @ f/10. This was actually two images merged to complete the moon, as the image is too large to fit on the chip at 2000 mm. I can't recall the details for the smaller image, other than it was a stacked image and shot through a 12" SCT using a webcam. Later, when we got more sophistacted, we were shooting with webcams, through an IR pass filter and stacking from runs of 1500 frames.

Superb image Bob. Yesterday's night I took a lot of pictures with different shutter speeds. None of them came close to yours. Today I have more time, so I will try again. Attached you will find one of my shots. Hope to do better tonight. I added your pic to my favorites. This is truly a piece of work. Thank you very much for posting this picture. Keep up the good job. Yamil

Thanks Den. I'm impressed with what folks are now doing with their consumer level, off the shelf, digital equipment... it crushes what we were able to do with film, just a few years ago. Once the digital explosion hit, all things seemed possible. Two years ago, my partners and I were combining resources to accumulate data for the moon at a rate of up to 500 gigabytes/evening session. The plan was to contribute to a lunar atlas that was in the making at the time. Here's a sample of one of our first attempts.

Woweeee Bob. TREMENDOUS image. I posted a shot recently which I thought was good but this surpasses it. Fabulous detail. My compliments. Den

Thanks Sonny. Somewhere in my portfolio, (the image was called 'Planet Medley'), I have an image of Mars at .5 arcseconds from the last close approach. I probably won't be able to replicate that for this season as I don't have the time available this time around and getting the 'seeing' is a matter of luck, (unless you can travel to a location where the upper air mass is typically stable... not usually the case here, near the Great Lakes).

Thanks Mary.
I used to do some hi-res lunar and planetary stuff at ~.5 arcseconds with my 12" SCT. Then I moved and now I'm too far from my bigger scope to make the effort practical.

Great picture, Bob. The features show well as do some craters along the terminator. Nice lens ;-) Mary
