I wouldn't have picked it as part of a heater. I reckon Alastairs' right, it looks like Joe 90's mind transfer machine. Great shot though Marian. It certainly gets you thinking.

I don't know what this is but it does remind me of something I grew up with as a child... In the 70's did you get a Gerry and Sylvia Anderson series on the TV called Joe 90? In the series (where the characters were puppets) there was a prime character called Joe 90 who used to don special glasses and sit in a large revolving machine which then gave him the ability to take on the technical skills and knowledge of the worlds leading specialists (e.g. helicopter pilot, heart surgeon etc). The idea was that he was then able to use this knowledge for the good of mankind and fight evil. Seems really corny now I relate it but at the time I loved it! Well the revolving machine he sat in to gain his knowledge was just like this image!
I love the interplay of light and dark shadows in this image... well done!
