I like sharpening myself but I will admit I dont like it in PS. I use Nikon Capture 4 almost solely for this purpose. It has the most subtle and (non-obtrusive)punchy sharpness I have ever seen. Worth a try if it ever crosses your path.

Thanks Shane. I never use in-camera sharpening - always unsharp mask in Photoshop. I agree that some of my stuff is oversharpened and it's something I'm trying to get right. I like bitingly sharp images though.

Yes I like this John. You got great contrast throughout and especially in the top right hand corner where the image is at it's hottest. Nicely composed aswell. Your digital manipulation is definatley improving. I still think though that you over sharpening just a tad but I guess this falls down to personal asthethics or beauty in the eyes of the beholder of the camera! Do you use unsharp mask in PS to sharpen or is it in-camera?
