This is a statue in front of the Peace Memorial Hall of a mother trying to protect her children from the nuclear blast that hit the city on 6 / 8 / 45. You can't walk anywhere in Hiroshima without being reminded of what happened to it 60 years ago. One of only 2 cities in the world to have atomic bombs dropped on it. The Peace Memorial Hall will rip your heart out with all the simply horrific pictures of what happened to people after the blast - people's skin falling off, horrible disfigurations..... There's more than pictures....The twisted bike frames, the doors with people shadows burned into them. When you're not busy crying you're busy trying not to throw up. This isn't easy stuff to see but ANYBODY who thinks War and Might is the answer to every problem should put themselves in a plane and visit this city - if it doesn't make one think long and hard and open one's eye's nothing will. PS used to go to B / W
hi, excellent and respectful about with a beautifully presented image...perspective is very good but to my eye on my monitor, seems a bit on the higher contrasty side?...not a biggy, as photo is a fine example of what is important globally.....regards,gayle
Right you are. Unfortunately the true meaning of the word "war" has been diluted and twisted recently. It's as if a Ministry for Truth has already been set up and operational. I think it has...
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS...i have enjoyed your excellent photography since joining UF...but I must say, thanks to your "About", this powerful sculpture is what i will remember from this one (i hope forever).
