This is a really wonderful composition. I do agree with Melanie, though. The background tone does not allow real separation that lets the subject stand out.

I like the concept, but I think it would be nicer with a wider range of tones. I think the pepper blends too much with the background! That is just me, though... maybe that is what you were going for?!! The composition is really nice!
