About Alpine Liguria is a beautiful place, unknown to most tourists. this little mountain road is very much off the beaten track!

The sun was setting behind these flowers, and casting the mountains in blue shadow.

Taken at 1/80s, but 1/60 was closest.(there's no option on the drop down)

You can travel, Lorraine! I got a very cheap flight from Newcastle to Nice. I did a lot of online research, and got a medieval apartment, dead cheap, in an ancient hill town, near where I took this.

That's why I only use a little point and shoot!
Thanks very much for your considered critique, I appreciate it.

Wonderful shot Colin. I love the contrast between the red flowers and the deep blue mountains. I also agree about the ND filter. I have just bought one and it makes a huge difference. You could always try to get the same effect as this in photoshop. I don't know a great deal about photoshop but I know you can add your own filter effects on. This might solve your problems with not having an SLR which would take filters manually. Even so its still a wonderful shot, I wish I could travel as much as you seem to do!

I like the way the mountains 'dissolve' into the sky! It adds a surreal effect, for me. Lovely colours and contrasts, great job!
Best regards,
Denitsa

Here's one that is very similar to my "wide macro," Colin. I think it works here, too. It's a pity you have a bit of flare lightening the mountain just behind the topmost flowers, though. Maybe if you had come in a bit closer and eliminated the heavy shadow at lower left you could have got a better balance of exposure overall and reduced the effect of that flare?

Beautiful, eery landscape with finely balanced composition and good technical details of the flowers in the foreground. Congrats, and thanks for your comment: Gyorgy

Thanks a lot Howard. Apart from composition, a lot of this was down to the little canon's, superb colour saturation. I had a great, photo-clicking time, in this wonderful area.

Colin

ps Took your advice on lager and pasta, (except it was lovely, provencal wine, not lager!)

I've sometimes used my filters overtop of my point and shoot and had it work to some degree, but I can see your point... traveling the world with a point and shoot or having a great camera and not going anywhere to enjoy it!
Thanks for the great comments, Colin!

Thnk you for the advice on the grad ND filter. However, at present, I use a point and shoot canon, with no option for this. The high price of a "proper" camera, would mean I coudn't visit the colourful places I do!

I'll bear it in mind for my old Canon T70, though.

One of my most used filters is my Graduated Neutral Density (Grad. ND) filter... it would have helped this scene have a little more balanced exposure between the sky and the foreground, giving the whole scene rich colour.
Well seen splash of reds within the sea of greenery... very colourful and eye-catching.
Thanks for taking a look at my website as well.. your comments are much appreciated!

Merci beaucoup, Drilan. The sky was an overexposed whiteness, which added nothing to the magical colours, so I just left it.

Spectacular lighting against the darker background. I like the way the top branch mirrors the shape of the hill behind it. It was a pretty scene but it took skill to arrange it in just this way. Nice work!

Hi Colin,

WOW!! FANTASTIC photo, what a gorgeous place this is. You were there at the RIGHT TIME, the lighting is awesome.

Love the flower color in front of the blue hazy mountains.

Now, all you need is a tiny border around it. That would seperate it from the writing (website) above.

Very nice work,
Lori :)

Thanks Dave, as you live in that fantastic Canadian landscape, that's a fine compliment.

This area of Italian Liguria, near the French border, is a magical place, and I hope my photos might show this.

Beautiful colour in these backlit flowers, Colin, and a very nice contrast with the dark mountains behind! Well done!
