I prefer the original version because here you lose the rainbows, but don't get any more clarity in the splash. It's still a shot I'd be proud of, though!

Joe, looks like you have the water bug :) really awesome series of shots, I thing I like the B&W version, the water look darker and has a mysterious look to it. great timing, very well done.

Very good capture.
To take this kind of pictures I use a different technique: long shutter speed and fast flash light to freeze the drop. It's mandatory to use an external flash, like my 580ex, because the internal one cannot regulate the flash output level. I use 1/128 of the light power.
