About Large scale model of the Avro CF-105 Arrow at the monument in Barry's Bay. This is where the former test pilot lives. The Arrow was one of the world's finest aircraft scrapped on "Black Friday" by the Canadian government in 1959. The Arrow was ahead of its time and if it was updated with today's electronics' and weapon's packages would be a front runner in the world for a multirole aircraft. Photographed on July 15, 2005. ISO 100, polarizing filter.

Thanks very much Mary! I passed through Barry's Bay on July 15 on my way to the Bruce Peninsula. Was the first time I saw the model of the Arrow. I sure was very impressed!!

I knew I recognized this. So, when were you in Barry's Bay? I wonder if I was at the lake at the same time. Although, I really didn't spend much time there this summer.
I know this is one of your favourite topics. You have certainly done it justice with this great picture. I really like the way you habve presented it.

Hi Ernie,

Very true!

One thing... contrary to popular belief, the U.S.A. did not really influence Dief to scrap the Arrow. In fact, from what I hear the U.S. may have had no intention in acquiting the planes for themselves, but they did offer to purchase enough of them to make up a squadron and then give them back to Canada. I suppose they did see the value of a long range interceptor for the huge Canadian arctic. Amazing as it may sound, our government declined that offer :0( Dief must have gotten some real bad advice... to make up for the cancelled Arrow, we ended up with the already controversial Bomarc Missiles and a few dozens of very costly, not-so-great U.S. F-101 Voodoo.

Hi Patryck,

That would be really neat if it would happen...

..... And it looks like it will in a few years...

Thanks for the reminder. If only Dief had not scrapped this project, we may not be so dependent on the USA to look out for us all the time.

However, if any nation picks on us, we can always use a catipult to throw our mad cows at them!! (kidding...we do not have any more mad cows, only slightly ticked off ones...)

I think it should be built again. If Canadians built it, they can do it again.
