Just as I clicked the "Add Comment" button on my previous comment, I realized that I should have included a warning with the link I included - they are *very disturbing* images.

Thanks,
SteveR

Wow! Gayle, you really know what you're doing! This is real, honest-to-gosh photojournalism.

This is a very powerful photo - the symbolism of the guitar and the candle is compelling. Yes, your cropping is very strong- I think that isolating these 2 elements adds to the stregnth of the image - more so that if we were to see the faces of these people.

As far as tone, I think it would have been nice to have been more crisp, but overall, that is minor in comparison to the emotional impact.

Unfortunately, I believe that rallying "for peace" and singing Kum-ba-yah is the wrong approach when one is dealing with this:

Hi Gayle,

love that crop and design very much. the separation from the background leads the focus onto the manifestation of peace. nice job!

hugs, thilo

This crop certainly highlights two symbols that have been used to represent peace: music and candles.

It's quite interesting when you ponder the symbolism of candles; they're lit to invoke peace, to promote calm, and to inspire reverence.

Thank you for sharing this moment in time, Gayle.
