Tjaart, I agree with you completely about getting some forground rocks in. Alternatively, just having nice high rocks in front of the camera could mean that I could still have used the tripod more successfully. It would definately have made the composition stronger - but its easy for me to get distracted by nice clouds and forget about the small detail that you only notice afterwards (also these lenses work best doing that). Thanks, your helpful comment - it definately helped me look at the composition more critically.

Thanks, Guido. Yes, it's got USM, but I don't use it very often . The 20D's auto focusing just isn't accurate enough for my full satisfaction and its a bit cumbersome - I generally use manual focussing. You just have so much more control. Also with this lens your DOF is so big, and you use hyperfocal distances so often, that it's not particularly practical...

Good shot Brian - imho I would have lied down to get the foreground rocks in closer to give a better view of the threatening storm. This way the thirds rule could have been better adhered to...

I remember from my time in SA.
We dont see that low hanging clouds down here.
Has this lens USM (Ultra Sonic Motor)?

Thanks, Larry. I think I had a beautiful part of the world on my side (definately helped me take better photos). At the time, I was also being inspired by a book called "Photos With Impact" by Tom Mackie - highly recommended for photographers - I need to read it again, I think.
