1000 mm lens will get you close. The problem with the moon is that the slightest bump even with a tripod will blur the photograph since you have to shoot with a low F-stop and low shutter speed.

Yeah - Mine's yellow since I caught it right above the horizon. I like yours as well, I noticed that your moon is rotated compared to mine - how interesting how different parts of earth at different times results in neat shadows...
