WOW Richard, I was realy surprised to find out this was a mushroom. I've never seen one like that. I thought they all had relatively smooth surfaces. Good find and interesting photo. Had me stumped. :)

I was inspired by some of the other pictures of mushrooms and toadstools here on Usefilm, to go and have a closer look at the large specimens that have recently appeared all over our lawn. They've all gone again now. Weird things, fungi!

Melted gum. Now there's an interesting one! Reminds me of that horrible tacky sensation when you tread on gum on the pavement. Not right, though.
