There are a number of artists who painted and still paint steel mills. I found this painting by Aaron Harry Gorson (1872 - 1933), American realist, who painted scenes with steel plants around the Pittsburgh area.

Great contrasting shot, I like the virtual silhouettes of the buildings with lighter roofs reflecting the light.

Thanks Susie, it's fresh from today :) It was a terribly dark and cloudy day, and I thought the smoke would contrast. I've been photographing these for 5 yrs., but since UF, it renewed my interest. Also, I might try them at night, they have lots of lights!

It is indeed a painterly image. I like all the lines you got going here with the smoke and the stacks...definitely a moody landscape! Nice one Ina.

Hi mundh - I didn't wait too long, the problem was to get the steam at the right time, because it's not always so dense. Thanks :) Regards

Thanks Brian :) I've photographed these many times in the past without success until I realized that I had to wait for a cloudy day so the smoke would contrast with the sky. I can't get too close, I have photographed at my max. lens zoom, across a gulf. Today, the clouds were almost black.
