Don't worry one bit about responding to my comments, Ann. If you have the time I would much prefer that you comment on one of my images. I rarely respond to comments, but I will take a look at someone's portfolio and comment if I see something I like. I am afraid that I've become somewhat addicted to UF!

Of the "Barns by Kathy Collection" ;) this one is my favourite. I enjoy the textures, tones and it just gives me the feeling that I should peek into the blackness of the broken open window. I love the clarity. Nice series of photos.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my images Kathy. I don't often reply to each and every comment personally on the actual photo threads but I do appreciate your comments.

Cheers - Ann :)

hi,duh...yes,i have done that previously and guess aging wipes short term memories more than i would like to admit!..LOL..feeling kinda stupid right about now...thanks for jogging my memory bank! (what did ya think about that "Guy" who was rude/pompous on suze's shot of leaf in vegas?...he kept sending replies to me,so i decided i had enough of his caustic ways.)

Hi again, Gayle,
That is a good barn shot! Thanks for sharing!
You said that you can't change the frame when you are working with someone else's image, but have you tried just cropping the image out of the original frame as a first step and then starting over? I've done that many times. As a matter of fact, sometimes I try to remember what the original frame was like to put it back, and I can't! It works great!
Thanks again!
Kathy

hi, yeah i thought a thinner black line on inside of wider brown frame would be best, too, but i couldn't change what you already had except the color...overall image isn't as dark as shows here, but that is probably because of smaller image at 500pixels....yes,the shadows are bolder and takes down the slight overexposure...great series,Kathy!
Here is a barn pic i shot last year thought you might enjoy...regards,gayle

Thanks so much Gayle! I can see what you are doing with the image and I think it's good. Your version brings out the shadows more than mine. That being said it is a bit on the dark side for my tastes...but that's just a personal thing. Looking at your version I wish I had put a darker outside frame around it. I like your color choice better. I think with a thinner black canvas around the image and that color around the outside it sets it off better.
Thanks again!
Kathy

anyway, here is the edited version i meant to attach...regards,gayle

Hi Gayle,
Anytime you have a specific critique of any of my images, by all means, share it with me! I love constructive criticism. I think that is what this site is all about. I think I have learned a lot since joining 2 1/2 months ago, and I hope that learning curve continues.
As far as this particular critique goes...the image either isn't attached or something happened on my end, but I can't see it. If you want to try again I would be happy to take a look at what you've done!...and Thanks for taking the time!

hi, i am a big fan of rough hewn wood and vintage structures so find this comp very appealing...the natural lighting is obviously very bright and so i thought the contrast level could be tweaked a bit....you may not be able to see the difference in the small 500 pixel image attached, but it is there...LOL..if you save image and take to your photofiles, then you can see it with a black BG on your monitor and increase the magnification...
hope you are open to critiques like this..not an expert by any means, but i am very conscious of contrast levels and other basics....
Thanks for comment on my bridge sunset shot and you are right about the slight blur on bridge...i should have held my breath!..LOL..
regards,gayle

More of a good thing...love it! Can't say more than has already been said!!!

I'll have to remember Sheila's words on different angles...OHHHHH so much to remember.

I like this a lot. The lighting and the different textures are great! I especially like the horizontal planks against the vertical boards. It gives a nice balance to the photo.

I was reading comments to and from you on different angles. Something that my teacher keeps telling us that I don't always do is to take your first shot (the one that you first saw when you dicided to take the picture) and then to take at least 3 or more shots from different agles. I try to take at least one more shot from a different angle, but it's not as easy to do when you are shooting with film.

Anyway...I love this photo just the way it is. Well done!

I didn't even think about getting down and shooting from a different angle, Mark. I wish I had! Hard to tell which one would have been better, but at least I would have had a choice! Thanks for your nice words!

Love this one, Kathy! It has so many beautiful elements: texture of the wood, tonality, crooked sash of the window, even a hinge in the lower right corner. What a ruin that looks so inviting for a photographer! Beautiful take!

Very nice, Kathy. I like the detail and textures here. Normally I might not expect a single window framed in the center to work so well compositionally, but I like this composition. I think the horizontal planks to the left side create an asymmetry that's working for you here. And the edge of the delapidated roof and peeled paint makes an interesting texture at the top. A slightly lower shooting position might have created a little more perspective, but that is no criticism. Nice job!

Wait until you see the WHOLE barn in a couple of days, Sam! It's going to need a lot more than those tools to fix it up!
Thanks for the nice comment!

Wow this is cool! There's so much to look at in this image. It looks almost like peeling paint on the left side...and that area forms a column.
Nice comp...the window is actually centered but the column next to it weighs it out just right to 1/3's.
Just the right amount of roof line too IMO. Very nice Sissy.

Fantastic Shot Kathy. I Like the rich textures in the wood...I have a couple of hand sanders and a wagnor Power painter...We can fix that Barn right up...hahaha.
