Superb job, love the DoF here with the building, it just makes for the perfect bacground. Such great clarity on the forefront tulip. Your angle is perfect. Good job!

Best wishes,

Beautifully done! Love it, it's such a great composition, with just the suggestion of the building in the background.

Thought I recognized our city hall. Those tulips should be back in bloom in a week or so, and the way the weather trend's been going this year, may be good for some blue sky shots in the background. Have you been to Lemoine Point in spring? In about another 3 weeks the trilliums will be out, there's large patches of them there in the woods.

Thank you for the wonderful comment, and allowing my photograph to hitch a ride to the front page with your comment.

I do agree that there seems to be a lot of empty space at the top of the photograph. It is hard to see in through the fog, but there is a weathervane at the top of the building, and I was framing thinking that this would be a little more visible. It does not really show in the phootograph, and I probably should have cropped some of that white space out.

Once again, thank you for your wondreful comment, I love to get constructive critisism once in a while (apparently the staff here likes to see it as well).

Congrats for FP FC image! smart choice of low perspective...i would crop down from the top since the additional space doesn't add anything to the image IMO...excellent dof, color and clarity
good work! regards,gayle

Beautiful composition and very well thought out. I am usually not very fond of floral photographs but this one is outstanding! You captured the moment at the best possible time.

Many compliments and best wishes.........Mike

A very nice angle and perspective. The building makes an interesting background against the crisp focus on the tulip with the water droplets.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Hi Ashley,

Clever use of perspective. I love the colours and detail of the tulip in the foreground. Well seen and captured.

One thing I think that would improve the image would be to crop some off the top of the photo.

Otherwise, clever use of having two features to fade in and out of as a viewer.

Cheers,
Alice. (thanks for your comment)

What a great photo, Ashley! You were very clever in putting the vibrant red flowers against the grey dull building. And the vertical format is very nice.

And thanks for visiting me, Mr Tipper!

Nice capture & like the shallow DOF that puts the foreground tulip in focus. Just an opinion Ashley, I'd crop a little off the top, otherwise a neat perspective. I've got a shot of the same flora on my portfolio titled "Tulips" check it out when you can, thanks much for your kind words & input, best wishes.

This shot is enhanced by the angle at which you took it. The subect, flowers, is very quietly supported by the City Hall in the backgrond.
Kingston is certainly a venue that offers much photographic subject matter, what with the water, the boats and the older buildings.
Nice shot.

Ahhh, good old Kingston and the rainy weather, I remember it well!! Great shot. Like Monika says, you can find beautiful pictures in any kind of weather. The colour sure brightens up a soggy day. Cheers, Gary

un modo originale ed insolito di presentarci un monumento: lo metti in secondo piano, sfocato e con la nebbia... così i veri protagonisti diventano questi meravigliosi tulipani bagnati...
Gran bello scatto...

Kes,

I did not use a photo editor on this picture. At the top of the building there is a weather vail, this is barely visible with the fog. This is giving the illusion of a halo.

Thank you for your comment, I had not noticed this halo before.

Very nice composition and colors!

There is a "halo" around the building in the sky - did you do that with a photo editor?

Ash     {K:9427} 10/28/2005
Monika,

Thank you for your comment. It was very encouraging.

I have found lately that when I have the time to spend on photography the weather seems to be miserable. This has actually helped me to step outside my comfort zone and take pictures that I would normally not take, like this one. I think that everyone should take their camera out on a bad day, you never know what you'll get.

Ususally I do not like to see the background on floral photos, because usually it is awful - ground, leaves, sticks, brick, grass etc.
That is why I do prefer shallow DOF that makes the background totaly blurred.

Here we have visible building in the background but it works well. Thanks to the mist in the air it does not compete with colors of the flowers in the foreground. It would not look the same if taken in good weather conditions.
So... every conditions, every weather, every time is good to take photos :) The matter is to chose the way of taking a photography. To chose the best way.
Well done!
