The night before my first day at White Sands an unusual weather system had moved through resulting in an out of season monsoon (not to mention lightning, tornados, flash floods, etc.). Being very excited to photograph this area I was the first person into the park. I even arrived before the rangers, but had to wait. As a result of my early arrival I caught very unusual sights on my drive in thanks to left over rain water from the night before. On my first short hike into the park I caught this site out of the corner of my eye. The sun low on the horizon backlit this leaf resting on the wet sand. I was lucky to have noticed it.
More of my images can be seen at http://www.jmg-galleries.com Thanks for your time and comments.
What great lighting you had to work with Jim. It looks like the leaf also had a light source underneath it too like it has a hot coal under it but that's just my imagination at work here and how I see things. I really like the contrasting background. Gives it great colour and texture. Very nice iamge to view. Cheers - Ann :)
I like this but I wonder if you also approached it from an angle more to the right, and maybe with a little shallower dof? Looks like good potential there as well.
