About

WOW....what an incredible two weeks. I have travelled approximately 7000 kms (4350 miles) by plane, 2500 kms (1553 miles) by car and 400 kms (250 miles) by train.

I have seen and experienced some amazing sights. From being shut into a jail cell to standing in the middle of desert terrain. From climbing on top of school roofs to finding Kangaroo warrens complete with tunnels. From wild pigs running beside the car to Brolgas crossing the road. I have seen wedge tail eagles soaring through sunrises and wild emus that came right up to my camera. Many different species of kangaroos and wallabys and even patted the Bilby.

I have climbed to the top of cattle yards and stood in vast paddocks completely surrounded by herds of Brahman cattle whilst talking on the mobile to people in the city...LOL!! Photographing stations of over 100,000 acres to photographing cities at night. Visiting tropical beaches to finding an 1869 steam engine abandoned in the middle of a farm paddock.

Erosion of the outback to the highrise of the cities. Standing in yards of massive bulls to photographing tiny eggs in the middle of desert plains. Capturing the hard warn faces of farmers and coaxing young station hands to pose on top of cattle rails for me. Rounding up firemen to pose for photos through to posing over 70 people in one shot. From 4am sunrises to late night shots over water.

This trip has been incredible and whilst I was very tired I was very well looked after. And I think my fear of heights has now been overcome as you will see over time.

So I sat here and thought, what image will I start with? So considering I was out photographing Australia I have decided to start with a recognised subject. The emu. These emus were out in the middle of nowhere and decided to come up to my camera to investigate. I did see other emus with their chicks but this was my favourite group of emus. This image was taken at 6-37am on the way to another shoot. Hence the dark shadowing over their faces.

Now whilst I think of it.....Biliana and my contests are ending in a couple of days...so please, get your entries in. The winner can choose any image from my portfolio to print. There may be a couple I cannot release but that can be discussed with the winner later. So get them in folks and in the meantime I hope you enjoy what I have to show you.

Also my calendars are selling fast. There are not many left so if you wanted one please let me know as soon as possible. They can be viewed at my website.

Due to the size of these birds, for your car windsheild's sake, you are lucky that they don't fly :)

The angle works very well. There is something quite prehistoric looking about these creatures.

Now for your next shot I would like to see you capture some of these flying! That would really be special :)

Hi Ann. I am pleased I could bring you something familiar to you. I didn't see any camels but that didn't bother me as I am used to seeing them around my area.

The outback is extremely harsh at the moment. Very little water but lots of oasis' around. As you will see over time. Some areas were extremely bad with just bare sand and remaining stumps of where trees once grew. Very sad indeed.

Ann Nida Ann Nida   {K:45248} 11/12/2005
Just going through the recently posted photos and came across this little gem that made me homesick and laught at the same time. Cheeky buggars those emus and this bunch looks like they might have kept you on your toes. I love the angle at which you shot them. Looking upwards at them adds to their unpredictable cartoon like character. Sounds like quite the trip you had there. I had a year travelling in the Outback then later I flew charter planes during the pilot strike out there. Loved the experience.

Did you see any camels? It must be quite the drought ravaged land now I expect. I look forward to seeing more of your images from home.

Cheers - Ann :)
